How far is the DofE bronze expedition?
A standard distance to walk is 16km per day on Bronze, 19km per day on Silver, and 23km per day on Gold. Naturally, some groups will do less than this, and others more.
How long is the DofE expedition?
7. The expedition must be of the correct duration and meet the minimum hours of planned activity. Bronze: A minimum of 2 days, 1 night; 6 hours planned activity each day. Silver: A minimum of 3 days, 2 nights; 7 hours planned activity each day.

Gold expeditions require 8 hours of planned activity per day. This is roughly 20Km walking per day.
Is the DofE Expedition hard?
DofE expeditions are supposed to be challenging, so you will find it hard. You may even feel like giving up at some point during your expedition. But you will have your team mates to encourage and help you get through, and at the end the sense of achievement and good memories will definitely outweigh the low points.
How far can you backdate DofE?

Now await your DofE certificate, badge and details of the ‘Achievement Pack’. The system allows you to backdate one section per Award for up to 3 months. As soon as this is approved the system will not permit you to backdate any more sections for that Award.
Can you do Silver DofE without bronze?
Silver is the second level of the Award, and takes a minimum of 6 months to complete if you have completed Bronze or 12 months if you have not completed Bronze – Direct Entry. You can start your Silver Award as soon as you’ve completed your Bronze. If you have not completed Bronze then you must be 15 to start Silver.
Can you smoke on DofE?
The use of bongs, hookahs, or similar or associated items, for the purpose of smoking flavoured tobacco or other substances, is strictly prohibited. Any participant contravening this rule may be excluded from the remainder of the DofE training or Expedition.

It is unacceptable, at any DofE level, for Supervisors and staff to rely on text messaging or phone calls with participants for updates rather than seeing the team.

TrekCo run Bronze DofE Expeditions for groups and Schools. The Bronze Expedition is a two day expedition, with one night spent camping. There should be six hours minimum of activity planned each day, with at least three of these hours journeying. This replaces the old distance requirements for expeditions, but is in reality approximately the same.
Is there an upper heat limit for DofE expeditions?
We don’t set an upper heat limit as some DofE expeditions are completed in very hot environments around the world such as deserts and jungles, and it would be difficult to set a ‘limit’.
What is the format of bronze DofE?
The format is as described on our DofE Programmes outline page with a training programme, followed by the expedition elements. Locations – We are able to run Bronze Expeditions in many locations, but our main area for Bronze DofE is in the Ashdown Forest area of Sussex.
