What is the difference between microsol and microset?
Micro sol is mostly a softening solution. When applied it softens the decal allowing the decal to “suck” itself to the surface it’s applied to. This makes the decal conform to three surface nicely giving it that painted on look. Mico set is a setting solution which helps the decal stick better.
What is microset?
Micro Set slightly softens the decal film to make it more flexible so that it will conform better to the model’s surface. Better adhesion of the decal to the model prevents tiny air bubbles from forming and results in an invisible carrier film for the so-called ‘painted on look.
What is Solvaset?
Make Your Decals Settle In Like Paint! Getting professional results is easy with Solvaset. It actually softens the decal film so it snuggles down to the surface and stretches over details, such as rivets, without hiding them. Also eliminates air bubbles, white spots, draping and silvering.
Is microset just vinegar?
EDIT: The online consensus is that Micro Set is diluted acetic acid (vinegar), and Micro Sol is acetone diluted with isopropyl alchohol. However, some people complain of yellowing when using vinegar as a substitute for Micro Set.
What can I use instead of Micro Sol?
you can also use white vinegar mixed with water. It does the same thing as the other decal sets and is way cheaper.
How long does it take micro sol to dry?
It should be lying down flat once it dries… if not then hit it again with the Microsol. When it is dry and cured (at least 24 hours) I would Future over the decals. The only reason I say this, is even if you plan on using a enamel or lacquer top coat, the future will help protect the decal from the strong solvents.
Can vinegar be used to set decals?
Yes. It works fine. I refilled my bottle of Micro Set with white vinegar from a gallon bottle years ago and I’ve had no ill effects. I’ve refilled it many times with great results.
What is MicroSol made of?
The online consensus is that Micro Set is diluted acetic acid (vinegar), and Micro Sol is acetone diluted with isopropyl alchohol.

Decal Softener is designed to improve the adherence of the decal and prevent the formation of air bubbles. It also acts as a cleaner and helps prepare the surface of the model before applying the decal. Before placing the decal, first apply Decal Softener with a brush on the surface of the model.
