What is Vatna?
Vatna involves applying a paste made from turmeric powder and mustard oil all over the bride’s body by her female friends and relatives. This is done to make the bride look more beautiful on the most special day of her life.
What do you mix in haldi ceremony?
The perfect haldi paste is made with turmeric which is the main ingredient and a mixture of a few or all of the ingredients mentioned below:
- Curd.
- Sandalwood.
- Gram flour.
- Rose water.
- Milk.
- Mustard oil.
- Almond powder.
- Lemon juice.
How do you make Maiyan paste?
Steps to follow:
- Take the gram flour (besan), sandalwood powder, cream (malai) and a pinch of turmeric (haldi) powder. If you have very dry skin, you can also add a few drops of almond oil or olive oil.
- Mix all the ingredients together to form a smooth paste. Make sure that no lumps are formed while you make the paste.
What is a Kurmai?
Kurmai. The formal engagement ceremony that takes place at the groom’s house or the Gurdwara. Prior to the engagement proceedings kicking off, the priest or Granthi offers a short prayer.

Why is chooda dipped in milk?
The bangles are first purified with milk and rose petals. Before it is put on the bride’s wrist by her maternal uncle, all the close relatives touch the chooda as a mark of their blessings.
How make Ubtan for bride at home?
In a bowl, take about 1-2 tablespoon of ubtan powder. Now add 2 tablespoon of yogurt, 2 tablespoon of raw milk and lemon juice according to your preference. Keep it in a medium thick consistency and use rosewater instead of lemon juice if you have sensitive skin. Leave this ubtan for 3 to 4 minutes.
