Are Keela any good?
The Keela Cairn is the second lightest jacket in our review of the best waterproof jackets for 2020 and one of the least expensive. The fabric, Keela’s own brand one, is soft, flexible and comfortable with good breathability.
Where are Keela jackets made?
WE’RE based in Scotland but most of our customers are in the UK and we export a lot. We do all of the engineering and customisation and we have some manufacturers here but also have a factory in Sri Lanka run by us.
How good are Keela jackets?
It’s bulky and heavy, but there are positives to the Munro. Hammering up a local hill in cold conditions, the jacket proved to be reasonably breathable and we didn’t fug out. The double-layer construction gives it a reassuring protective feel too and, as Keela says, it’s warmer than conventional single fabric shells.

Is there a truly waterproof jacket?
They’re favoured for their good balance between weight, breathability and waterproofness. The most common type of waterproof membrane is of course Gore-Tex, but we’ve also included some of the various own-brand waterproof technologies such as Columbia’s OutDry, Outdoor Research’s AscentShell and H2No by Patagonia.
Is 10000 waterproof enough?
5-10,000mm is ideal for those who spend long days out on the mountain, in all weather conditions; while 10-20,000mm is best for those in wetter climates or skiers and snowboarders who prefer backcountry.

Gore-Tex Pro – Used by professional outdoors people to endure heavy rain for sustained periods. This is the best of the best. Gore-Tex Paclite – Extremely lightweight and packable, through-hikers and backpackers love jackets made from Paclite.
