Does AMA charge for towing?
Will AMA tow my car today if I become a member? Yes, but we charge a one-time $40 Immediate-Use fee in instances where new members require assistance immediately after joining. Note: members who join during Immediate Use get Basic coverage for that rescue regardless of membership level purchased.
How many tows do you get with AMA plus?
As an AMA Basic primary member or associate member, you get up to 4 roadside assistance calls per membership year. As an AMA Plus or Premier primary member or associate member, you get up to 5 roadside assistance calls per membership year. If you need more than that, we’ll kindly ask you to pay for the service.
Can I tow someone else’s car with AMA?
If you need roadside assistance, it doesn’t matter if you’re the driver of the vehicle or a passenger in someone else’s car. AMA will come to your rescue. All you will need to do is present your valid membership card together with your driver’s licence when your operator arrives, and you’re good to go.
How Far Will AMA tow your car?
How far will AMA tow my car? Your maximum towing distance is determined by your membership level. For Basic members it’s 5 km, Plus members it’s 160 km, and Premier members can be towed for free up to 320 km. once per membership year.

Does a car need to be insured to be towed?
When using a tow-bar the towed vehicle will be legally classed as a trailer, so provided your own car insurance policy includes cover for pulling a trailer (or you take out a standalone trailer insurance policy) the towed vehicle won’t need its own car insurance policy.

When does my AMA membership become effective? You become an AMA member as soon as you purchase your membership. This means you can automatically take advantage of all products, services, including basic roadside services and have access to all business areas.
Can someone else use my AMA?
No, AMA memberships are not transferrable. The membership covers you the member regardless of the vehicle you are driving, or even when you are a passenger with someone else. But we want your spouse, as well as family members living in your home, to also have peace of mind when they’re driving on our busy roads.
Can I tow a broken down car?
The most appropriate time to tow another car is when it has broken down and is either causing an obstruction or is in a dangerous location and needs to be towed to a safer spot. Towing another car has inherent dangers and you should keep that journey to an absolute minimum distance.
Can any car tow another car?
